Groundwater is a more progressive and protective source than surface water When it comes to drinking water and is the second largest source of water for daily consumption, next to surface water resources. Nowadays it has been a topic of interest for researchers in studying the environment and pollution in rural and urban areas. Out of 17 goals in SDG (Sustainable Development Goals), goal 6 is about health for all which is prescribed by the United Nations Organization and signed by India, directed to secure the attainability and viable control of water for all. The contamination of groundwater is due to mixing up the production of toxic chemicals, rapid increase of population growth, urbanization, adequate waste disposed dumping yards and industrial sites. Sources by which groundwater is getting polluted are anthropogenic and geogenic contaminants. The principal input of substances from cropland, overuse of industry, large dumping yards, human activity, and oil spills are the direct causes of organic pollutants. Geogenic contamination is due to the lateritic and fractured sandstone formations, silicate weathering minerals and the minerals include aragonite, calcite, dolomite and fluorite, and due to groundwater naturally contains higher concentrations of some elements than other places. Many places were affected by geogenic pollution on a national and international level. The most toxic and global geogenic contaminants are Arsenic and Fluoride which are both in the form of arsenite and fluorine in groundwater and are the most toxic in form. Various states and districts were damaged by geogenic pollution such as Arsenic (10 states and 68 districts), Fluoride (20 states and 276 districts) and Iron (24 states and 294 districts). The effects of all the contaminants lead to various harmful diseases such as blue baby syndrome, dental and skeletal fluorosis and many more.
