Our Generation Has No Real Youth
摘要
Yang interviews a woman born in 1987, who is currently a post-doc in Beijing after having completed part of her higher education abroad. The discussion focuses on the ruthless intensity of gaokao (college entrance exam) preparation in Jiangsu province, and the interviewee’s negative reaction to it. It offers a personal perspective on the particularities and overall effects of the education system, and the way that both high school and college experiences shaped the interviewee’s worldview. She also discusses the backsliding of Chinese feminism in recent years, and how she encountered this in her later business ventures.
