Design and Development of an Energy-Efficient Heart Rate Monitoring System Using IoT Platform
摘要
IoT has huge potential in applications like elderly care, chronic diseases, remote health monitoring, and more. Further, by efficient scheduling of limited resources, IoT ensures optimal use and service to more patients. An energy-efficient heartbeat monitoring system is proposed in this paper. It is based on IoT. The main purpose of designing this system is to check the heart rate at any time anywhere. Then the patients can take appropriate action at the right time according to their heart rate condition. Furthermore, the reason for making the system energy-efficient was to monitor patient health status for a longer term. This is because power management is a key requirement in IoT systems. The system works primarily to check that the patient’s heart rate condition is normal or critical. The critical and normal conditions of the patients are classified depending on the range of the heart rate. Using the proposed energy conservation strategy, the system is able to make decisions to adjust the time of sleep and waking time based on the patient’s condition. In addition, the system will generate a warning message in case of emergency to the patient. Performance analysis of the IoT model for the heartbeat monitoring system shows its ability to determine the patient’s current heart rate status. It also shows that the system is able to conserve energy by dynamically adjusting sleep and waking time.
