Bronchoscopy in Burn Inhalation Injury
摘要
Inhalation injury is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in burn patients. In addition, it is one of the three most significant predictors of death from thermal injury, alongside age and total burn surface area (TBSA). Historically, the diagnosis of inhalation injury has relied on nonspecific clinical examination findings and bronchoscopic evidence. In this context, the use of bronchoscopy has great value in the diagnosis of inhalational injury without any complications, leading to its potential incorporation into clinical practice. Several studies have also shown that the characteristics of the material inhaled play an essential role in determining the degree of respiratory failure.
