Infective Endocarditis in COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic is caused by a highly contagious respiratory virus and remains a significant global health crisis. The relentless global dissemination of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continues to cause widespread concern. This has led to the consistent exploration of the epidemiology, clinical progression, extent of organ inclusion, at-risk populations, diagnostic methods, investigative procedures, treatment options, and post-COVID-19 prognosis. As time progresses, the complications caused by this infection continue to increase. In the Western population, the incidence rate of Infective Endocarditis (IE) is 10 cases per 100,000 population years. Extensive population-based investigations have shown that the proportion of patients with newly diagnosed IE is unchanged compared to the previous two decades. Despite the numerous investigations, there is a scarcity of literature on the interaction between COVID-19 and IE patients. In this case report, a 67-year-old male patient was presented to the hospital with shortness of breath. The diagnosis of endocarditis was confirmed based on the transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) procedure. Open-heart surgery was performed, which included the placement of a mechanical valve and treatment with medication. The patient’s condition was reported to be improving after the replacement procedure.
