Journey of Breast Imaging
摘要
Breast cancer is the most common cancer and leading cause of mortality in females. The journey of breast imaging began in the first half of the twentieth century, with the aim to detect breast cancer in the early preclinical stage. Introduction of mammogram with subsequent technological advances over the years revolutionised breast cancer management, playing a pivotal role in screening, diagnosis, image-guided sampling, guiding treatment and surveillance. Subsequently, the other imaging modalities for breast-ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging evolved and have undergone tremendous advancements over the years. The current scenario of all these modalities was a result of several path-breaking trialsTrials which have played a pivotal role in shaping breast imaging. This chapter highlights the several path-breaking trials which have played an indispensable role in evolution of breast imaging.
