A Review of Electromagnetic Shielding of Near-Field Wireless Power Transfer in Satellite

Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is a technology that uses electromagnetic fields or waves to transmit energy, avoiding the constraints that transmission cables impose on mechanical structures. Near field WPT has been studied for satellite applications, but its high Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) poses challenges. Therefore, electromagnetic shielding technology is crucial for addressing EMI issues in near field WPT for satellite scenarios. This paper explains the advancements and necessity of using near-field WPT in satellite design, classifies WPT technologies, and provides a brief overview of the characteristics of satellite based near-field WPT. The main focus is to systematically introduce and summarize the current research status of electromagnetic shielding for near-field WPT systems based on different shielding materials, categorized into three types: Classic Materials, Nanomaterials and Metamaterials, and Suppression Coil. An outlook on the research of electromagnetic shielding for satellite-based near-field WPT systems is provided. Several issues related to engineered applications of satellite-based WPT that require further investigation is presented.
