Employment and Disability in LMICs
摘要
This chapter explore the employment challenges and opportunities for individuals with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), exploring factors such as workforce participation, discrimination, and the efficacy of employment programs. It underscores the profound economic implications of disability-inclusive employment, highlighting its role in promoting social inclusion and economic stability. This chapter also identifies crucial research gaps, urging future exploration to better understand the intersections between disability, employment, and societal dynamics. While people with disabilities in LMICs face numerous barriers—ranging from physical inaccessibility and discriminatory attitudes to limited vocational training—employment remains a key driver of social integration. Moreover, inclusive employment supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 8, which advocates for inclusive and sustainable economic growth. This chapter presents a comprehensive analysis of these issues, with a call to action for more robust policies, research, and practices that can foster inclusive labor markets and improve outcomes for people with disabilities in LMICs.
