Leveraging Quantum Computing to Combat Bot Attacks in the Banking Sector: Adoption Challenges and Opportunities

The banking sector faces escalating cyber-threats, with 61% of login attempts in 2021 involving bot attacks, necessitating advanced cybersecurity measures. This study examines the adoption of quantum computing for cybersecurity in Dubai’s financial institutions, extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by integrating Perceived Security Enhancement (PSE), Organizational Support (OS), Compliance with Dubai Regulations (CDR), and Trust in Technology (TT). This novel framework captures the interplay between technological, organizational, and regulatory factors in a highly regulated financial environment. Data from 200 cybersecurity professionals were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings confirm that Perceived Usefulness (PU), Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), and PSE significantly influence the Intention to Adopt (IA) quantum computing. Additionally, OS and CDR positively impact IA, underscoring the role of institutional support and regulatory compliance. TT mediates the relationship between PSE, OS, and IA, reinforcing the importance of trust in adoption decisions. Mediation analysis further confirms that IA significantly influences Actual Implementation (AI), demonstrating that adoption intention is a prerequisite for deployment. By integrating security, organizational, and regulatory dimensions, this study advances TAM’s applicability to cybersecurity adoption in the banking sector. Practical implications include pilot projects, workforce training, and strategic partnerships to enhance cybersecurity resilience and regulatory alignment.
