Internet of Things (IoT) has been impacting our professional and personal life in more ways than one in the last decade. Applications of this pervasive technology range from domestic household appliances to highly sophisticated medical and industrial equipment. With billions of devices powered by IoT, safety has emerged as a concern especially in the case of critical applications. Transportation of pharmaceuticals is a critical issue, wherein ensuring the integrity and safety of temperature-sensitive commodities is crucial. Pharmaceutical cold chain monitoring is vital so as to ensure that pharmaceutical products are stored and transported under proper temperature-controlled conditions throughout the supply chain journey. An efficient and cost-effective method is proposed to create a smart logistic environment for this supply chain using IoT (Sensors and Raspberry pi) and thereby monitoring various conditions like pressure, temperature, etc., inside the carton storing pharmaceuticals so as to maintain the natural traits of the product. A prototype of android, iOS, and web application is developed using which the customer can order the product and track the physical conditions on a continuous basis at specific check points. This facilitates the customer to monitor the parameters instantly which is not possible in existing system using GPS. The cost of this proposed system is estimated to be less than 50% of existing systems.
