Microgrids offer a flexible and resilient energy solution by integrating distributed energy resources (DERs), storage systems, and intelligent controls. This chapter explores a comprehensive suite of business and control/management use cases derived from national and international microgrid projects. Business use cases focus on market participation, such as energy trading, ancillary service provision, and paid islanding operations. These use cases involve multiple actors—microgrid operators, DER owners, consumers, and grid operators—collaborating to optimise financial returns through aggregation, demand response, and dynamic import/export strategies. Control and management use cases address operational requirements including balancing supply and demand, black start functionality, storage optimisation, protection, smart metering, and infrastructure upgrades. Each use case is broken down into sub-use cases that define their scope, objectives, and involved stakeholders. The framework outlined facilitates tailored microgrid design, operational strategies, and business model development, while reducing complexity in scenario planning. By aligning use cases with technical and market needs, the chapter supports the evolution of microgrids from pilot systems to robust, scalable, and economically viable energy systems. This classification provides a foundation for developing legal contracts, regulatory frameworks, and planning tools to accelerate the deployment and integration of microgrids in modern electricity systems.

摘要
