Since the past few decades, high vehicular growth rate along with vulnerable climatic conditions have been deteriorating the pavement performance during its service life. Deteriorations are in the form of rutting and fatigue cracking which leads to continuous reduction in serviceability of roads. This has initiated the need of bituminous binders with improved engineering properties. In the present study, performance evaluation has been conducted on unmodified bitumen (VG10, VG30 & VG40) and Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) modified bitumen. Physical and rheological test protocols have been adopted to evaluate the performance parameters of bituminous binders. Experimental outcomes have revealed that the SBS modified binder has superior properties as compared to unmodified binders. Further, properties of VG40 grade are found to be better than VG10 and VG30 grades of unmodified bitumen. Performance evaluation has signified that SBS modified bitumen possess highest rutting resistance potential among the studied binders which establishes its significance as high-speed pavement construction material in high temperature zones.
