Recent study has shown that 40 Hz light flickering can modulate neural offering a potential treatment for Alzheimer’s disease and improving sleep quality. These findings highlight the significant potential of light-dependent neuromodulation methods. Similarly, Terahertz (THz) technology has similarly demonstrated neuromodulate capabilities. To integrate their advantages, we have developed a novel dual-eye irradiation platform utilizing a 34.5 THz quantum cascade laser (QCL) source and measured its safety threshold for ocular exposure. Our experiments with mice indicate that low-intensity irradiation (below 26 mW/cm2) over an extended period (up to 200 min) does not result in corneal damage. However, higher energy densities can cause harm. The aim of this innovative platform is to modulate neural activity in a manner that is invisible, non-thermal, and non-invasive, thereby broadening the horizons for the application of terahertz technology in various fields.

摘要
