3.36 THz Waves Modulation on Neuronal Growth
摘要
Neuronal growth plays a crucial role in the development of the nervous system by guiding the formation of neural networks. Biomolecules exhibit rich fingerprint spectral information in the Terahertz (THz) frequency range, making THz electromagnetic wave modulation as a specific and effective neuromodulation approach. In this study, we explored the effects of THz electromagnetic waves on the growth of hippocampal neurons. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations demonstrated that the vibrational spectrum of adenylyl cyclase type 1 has three prominent peaks at 3.36, 7.66 and 8.04 THz. Based on the simulation results, we built a THz wave irradiation platform to irradiate primary cultured neurons with THz waves for three consecutive days and subsequently evaluate neurite outgrowth. The neuron irradiation experiment and the immunofluorescence analysis showed that neurons subjected to 3.36 THz waves showed a tendency to promote neuronal growth.
