Introduction to Paediatric Oncology
摘要
Paediatric oncology has witnessed substantial progress over the last few decades. Over the last 50–60 years, childhood cancer has shown a tremendous improvement in the treatment and the survival rate in the developed countries through adoption of uniform treatment guidelines and patient enrolment in multi-centric clinical trials. In the 1950s, only less than 10% childhood cancer patients survived beyond 5 years, as compared to 70–80% in the present era [1]. In the united states, the 5-year survival rate in 2011–2017 was 85% for children and adolescents [2]. Since the paediatric age ranges from birth to early or late adolescent, incorporating the individuals with different maturity rate and age adjusted care, leading to difference in the incidence and outcome in various study protocols [3].
