The piston movement of the hydraulic impact mechanism can be divided into three motion phases. In each phase, the working oil pressure is assumed to remain constant. Based on this assumption, expressions are derived to describe the piston motion and various performance characteristics of the impact mechanism — a method referred to in this book as the “three-step analysis.”
