Wellness Finishes of Textiles for Aroma, Health, and Hygiene: Integrating Functional Textile Finishing Techniques
摘要
Functional finishes, designed to enhance the performance properties of textile materials, have been widely applied in various technical textiles, including medical textiles. In the healthcare and hygiene sector, textile finishing is important, encompassing medicine and various techniques for functional purposes. Fabrics play a crucial role as a barrier between environmental microorganisms and human skin. Improper washing post-use can lead to health-related issues, as microorganisms can degrade fabric quality, causing discoloration, stains, fiber damage, unpleasant odors, and a slimy feel. The dyeing and finishing with herbs are another area free from toxic and artificial chemicals and provide eco-friendly wellness in apparel and home furnishing. Antimicrobial textiles enhance infection control, serve as barrier materials, and find applications in health and hygiene products. This chapter explores the wellness finishes in textiles for enhancing aroma, health, and hygiene. It emphasizes functional finishing techniques, including antimicrobial treatments, to protect wearers and fabrics from infections while addressing issues like discoloration, odors, and fiber damage caused by microorganisms. Eco-friendly approaches, such as herbal extracts and microencapsulation, are highlighted for their durability and antibacterial efficacy. The chapter also investigates the integration of essential oils, leveraging textiles’ proximity to the skin as a medium for aromatherapy. By combining traditional knowledge with scientific advancements in textile finishing, the chapter focuses on enhancing textile functionality, improving quality of life, and optimizing therapeutic benefits through innovative wellness finishes.
