The mediastinum has been divided into compartments based on organs which reside there. This division is still useful but was more prevalent when only X-rays were available. The advent of CT scans has not only reinforced the well-known anatomical divisions but upgraded the description based on the information gleaned from the CT images. In this chapter, we will look into the mediastinum and combine information acquired both from X-rays and CT scans.
