Conventional radiology is still the most widely used imaging procedure by orthopaedic surgeons, rheumatologists and many other specialists. There are several conditions like trauma, pain, growth-related issues, developmental defects post operative studies and malignancies, why they are needed. Should it be necessary, the skeletal system can be further evaluated by CT scans, MRI, isotope scans, PET scans and USG. X-rays of the bony skeleton need two or sometimes multiple views. A single view may not be sufficient. Performing X-rays of the skeletal system requires a good knowledge of the anatomy and technique. Often, it requires ingenuity on the part of the technician to deliver an appropriate view. In this chapter we will look at the skeletal system, using various imaging modalities.
