This research delves into the products, services, and systems underpinning waste disposal, with a spotlight on the often-neglected chore of waste-bin cleaning. The study highlights the imperative for transformative advancements in this facet of waste management. Unveiling a societal stigma around bin cleaning—“not my waste, not my job”—the research proposes a comprehensive education approach. Through awareness campaigns, effective communication, and early engagement, a communal sense of responsibility emerges, redefining waste management attitudes. Analysing the cleaning process, psychological associations and liner drawbacks emerge. Single-use liners’ leakage issues compound plastic waste concerns. To counter this, innovative solutions are explored. Innovations proposed include a long-handled brush with adaptable heads—slime, coconut fibre, or propylene—for efficient, hands-free bin cleaning. Furthermore, a dual-access openable bottom, mechanical/manual swirl mechanism, and rotating systems ensure hygienic cleaning without direct contact. Revolutionary liner designs are introduced, including washable, waterproof zip-lock and retractable, reversible liners. These ideas simplify cleaning while fostering sustainability. The concept of a modular waste bin with a slider mechanism further revolutionises waste management. These solutions signal a paradigm shift in bin cleaning, cultivating cleaner, more sustainable living spaces. In conclusion, this research uncovers waste disposal intricacies and presents inventive bin cleaning solutions. By defying conventions and embracing ingenuity, waste management at the residential level can be revolutionised. Proposed solutions align with practicality, sustainability, and convenience, embodying a future where waste disposal is a shared responsibility.
