Carrying a backpack is a fundamental practice for students to transport numerous books and stationery items during time for a longer duration. However, the associated stress from prolonged backpack usage has prompted a need for solutions to alleviate the issue. This study focuses on mitigating the stress induced by wearing heavy backpacks. Research indicates that carrying excessive loads leads to musculoskeletal injuries and results in uneven force distribution, consequently causing discomfort. The study involved the selection of participants aged between 18 to 20 years with average body mass. An ergonomically optimized backpack was conceptualized and fabricated for the investigation. The findings demonstrate that incorporating an “S"-shaped structure for the backpack and using chest and hip belts effectively reduces muscular strain along the back region.
