A compact wideband circularly polarized (CP) crossed dipole antenna (CDA) with high gain is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of dipoles in crossed configuration with their ends being curved to get a compact size. It is placed on an 8.4 × 8.4 mm2 metasurface acting as an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC). The evolution of curved CDA from straight CDA is explained and the comparison of CDA with and without metasurface is analyzed. The proposed CDA with curved ends has an antenna size of 0.77  × 0.77 λo (where λo is free space wavelength at 2.45 GHz). It has an impedance bandwidth of 35.9% (2.17–3.05 GHz), axial ratio bandwidth of 29.07% (2.03–2.69 GHz), and broadside gain of 9.81 dBic. The proposed antenna can be suitable for ISM band wireless applications.

摘要
