Exploring the Determinants of the International Academic Mobility and “Brain Drain” in Vietnam During and After Tertiary Education
摘要
Vietnam has been among the top countries with the highest number of students studying abroad. This puts Vietnam in a special position, a hotspot for international academic mobility, especially at the tertiary education level. However, one major challenge stemming from high international academic mobility is the loss of valuable skilled human resources through migration, also known as the “brain drain”. The purpose of this chapter is to explore the determinants of international academic mobility and brain drain, especially in the context of Vietnam. By assessing and comparing Vietnam’s brain drain problem with other countries, this chapter will also propose some potential strategies to overcome said problem.
