Smart Monitoring of Drinking Water Consumption Through IoT Technology
摘要
In a global context where water scarcity is a growing concern, the importance of saving it and having an efficient monitoring system is crucial. The ability to manage and optimize water consumption in real time not only helps conserve this vital resource, but also prevents damage to household infrastructure and reduces costs. Implementing advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) in water management allows for more precise control and rapid response to any irregularities. This work presents the development and implementation of a wireless electronic system for monitoring drinking water consumption in homes. Using the NodeMCU ESP32 microcontroller, the YF-S201 flow sensor, and a 12Vdc solenoid valve, the system measures and controls water flow in real time. Data is transmitted via WiFi to a database managed by XAMPP, allowing storage and analysis of the information through an accessible web interface. Comparative tests between the traditional water meter and the prototype, conducted over a 10-day period, showed a margin of error of 4 percent, demonstrating a reliability of 96%. This level of accuracy is suitable for residential applications and allows for effective detection of water leaks. The system not only facilitates continuous and accurate monitoring of water consumption, but also promotes water conservation and the prevention of damage to domestic infrastructure.
