AC-WC is a road pavement mixture with a dense aggregate gradation. According to the General Specifications, it is known that the aggregate used must be clean with the provision of clay clumps on the coarse aggregate maximum of 1%. This condition certainly requires clean aggregate without clay clumps. In practice, coarse aggregate with clay clumps more than 1% affects on asphalt mixture in terms of work quality and cost consequences. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risks that occur due to AC-WC mixtures using aggregates with a clay content greater than 1%. This research is laboratory based and the clay content in the coarse aggregate evaluated is in the range of 0–5%. The test results show that all Marshall parameters of the AC-WC mixture are only met at clay contents of 0%, 1% and 2% with optimum asphalt contents of 5.5%, 5.7% and 5.9% respectively. From these results it can be seen that for every 1% increase in clay content, it required the addition of 0.2% asphalt. Based on the job mix formula used, the unit price of AC-WC production indicated that there is a minimum turning point in AC-WC production with a clay content of 2%. This study shows that the maximum value of clay content of 1% of the General Specifications is set with caution, although the allowable tolerance for clay content in the coarse aggregate recommended by this study for use should not be more than 2%.
