Technological Interventions to Bioengineer Extremophilic Microorganisms for Biofuel and Bioenergy Productions
摘要
In this chapter, we explored advancements in biofuel and bioenergy productions using extremophilic microbes. The precise history of biofuels from different types of sources like crops and algae has been mentioned along with a precise description of extremophiles and their types. This chapter gives deep insight of technological interventions in bioengineering, and in this regard genome editing technologies like CRISPR have improved biofuel production by improving tolerance of microorganisms, optimizing utilization of substrate, and developing thermotolerant strains. The role of synthetic biology is also highlighted as it advanced the field by designing a robust microbial chassis. Biofuel production such as bioethanol, biobutanol, biodiesel, biogas, as well as biohydrogen has been explained well. So, this chapter gives a clear overlook of current and future potential of biofuel production by using extremophilic microbes by utilizing advanced bioengineering methods.
