What are the cross-cutting observations we can offer after having discussed both the making and the experiencing of time in contemporary academia? Knowing time expresses two understandings: it speaks to (1) what we know about the effects certain temporal regimes bring with them for those living in academic research and thus produce the knowledge and (2) the role of time in the process of knowing and the hierarchies and power relations inherent in such processes. This chapter will address numerous consequences of the re-timing of research such temporal inconsistencies, asynchronicities, academic arrhythmia, and exclusions. But it also speaks to the resistance of researchers, how they try to forge an identity worth having, and how in the end knowledge is governed by time.
