Design as a Key Stage in the Development of a New Aircraft and Its Modifications
摘要
This chapter discusses the definition of aircraft design, the aircraft design goals and objectives, as well as the role of innovation and creativity in the design process. In addition, the chapter lists out some design limitations, including the physical laws of aircraft flight mechanics, the level of advances in aircraft engineering and related industries, some production and technological aspects, and the available design time. The chapter also provides an insight into the aircraft as a complex system. Furthermore, the essence and goals of each stage of aircraft design, the relationship between the designer’s freedom and the maturity of the project, as well as the cost of design errors, are explored. Finally, in this chapter, the reader will learn about the role of technology demonstrators, as well as the concept of aircraft families and design for modifications.
