Estimation of Postmortem Interval from Dental Tissue
摘要
This chapter describes the different PMI estimation techniques using dental tissues. Various histological and biochemical factors affecting dental tissue-based PMI were discussed. Comparison studies were also done to illustrate reliable and accurate methodology for examination of dental tissues. In the last few decades, PMI estimation using dental tissue has seen significant advancements in its accuracy and reliability. However, various factors pose huge challenge to the examiners for accurate prediction of PMI from dental tissue. Despite many attempts by researchers to achieve accuracy and robustness, the scope of development in future includes increasing sample size, varying the environmental conditions, and standardizing the protocol globally according to climatic conditions of region. As it is the hardest and durable tissue of the human body, dental tissue forensics continues to be an active area of research.
