COVID-19 Insights on Geriatric Care Systems’ Vulnerabilities and Utility
摘要
The study investigates the usefulness of existing systems for looking after the elderly people in different societies. The two systems identified are the care home and the home care system. Wisdom shared in this chapter is mainly informed by understandings as exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study digs into literature and follows a comparative approach with the predominantly Western world care-home system on one side whilst the home-care system as widely used in African societies on the other hand. Findings show care-home systems as more vulnerable to the effects of contagious diseases like COVID-19. However, the care-home systems can also work well if well quarantined as opposed to the home care-systems.
