In response to maritime challenges in the South China Sea, Vietnam is integrating Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) into naval training. This study details the design of a torpedo-shaped AUV (TS-AUV) inspired by the SET-40U torpedo. Central to this is ensuring the thrust-to-drag ratio, μ, which hinges on propulsion and hull geometry. Leveraging computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the study aims for a μ ratio supporting a velocity of 29 knots at 100 m depths, emphasizing the TS-AUV's prospective role in enhancing realistic naval training methodologies.
