Bowen basin is one of strategic gas basins which has great potential coalbed methane (CBM) in Australia, and the study of CBM enrichment and high production factors in the basin is crucial in the CBM exploration and development. Based on drilling, logging, core, outcrop, seismic and production data, a systematic study is conducted on the structure, sedimentary characteristics, stress, as well as gas content and permeability of the MCM in the north Bowen basin. Main factors controlling MCM enrichment and high yield are identified, and favorable zone evaluation system is established, dividing the area into three zones. The result indicates that for MCM in north Bowen basin, sedimentary facies control the distribution of coal reservoirs, coal quality, and reservoir properties, and hydrology influences coalbed methane accumulation, and structure determine gas content and permeability distribution, and intrusive affect and modify the accumulation and enrichment zones. High productivity is primarily influenced by the favorable combinations of stresses, coal cleat systems, well trajectories. And local-high positions on the marginal slope are identified as primary factors for high production. The zone I, located in the middle of the western marginal slope belt at a relatively high position, are the priority coalbed methane exploration and development target for north Bowen Basin.
