This paper examines the linkage between crowdfunding and the circular economy, and it demonstrates the practical connections between crowdfunding and the circular economy via identification of circular economic projects on crowdfunding platforms. Then further connect the two phenomena by considering the theoretically connections between the phenomena via the utilisation of social capital and signalling theory. Whereby these theories are utilised to consider how the circular economy can be further supported within the crowdfunding platforms. These theories are then tested by examining Google Trend data on the circular economy and crowdfunding over a year period within the United Kingdom. The data is examined via regression analysing and thus demonstrates that increased search index for crowdfunding leads to increased search index for the circular economy, thus leading to a discussion of how crowdfunding platform design and principles can be utilised in support of the further development of the circular economy. Specifically through considering how to emulate social capital generation within crowdfunding platforms and how crowdfunding parties signal support for projects.

摘要
