Current identity management practices are proving to be increasingly insecure, invasive and overwhelming to both users and identity providers. Self-sovereign identity is an emerging model which focuses on giving users full control over their personal data without relying on third-party providers. This paper aims to examine how an additional human layer of trust can be incorporated into this model through the design of reputation system which aligns with the user-centric and privacy preserving principles of self-sovereign identity.
