This research project focuses on improving the functionality of Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates and devising an effective navigation system for the metro stations in Ahmedabad. Current AFC gates encounter challenges concerning congestion and user inconvenience, necessitating the need for advancements. Through thorough analysis of the existing system and conducting extensive surveys and cognitive task analysis, we have developed an upgraded AFC gate featuring a simplified and easily comprehensible design. We have designed a comprehensive user-centric navigation system using floor signage and boards strategically placed throughout the stations. By adhering to cognitive ergonomics principles, this innovative approach aims to enhance accessibility and usability for all passengers, resulting in reduced cognitive burden, shorter wait times, and heightened passenger satisfaction. The insights gained from the design solution aim to improve public transportation and have the potential to transform urban transit experiences.
