The present crude oil-based buses must be replaced with Battery Electric Buses (BEB) to achieve a state of green public transport. BEBs have three drawbacks: capital investment, limited operation range, and energy replenishment. Energy replenishment can be achieved by overnight charging, fast charging, or battery swapping. Overnight charging and fast charging add to the total system cost while battery swapping enables flexible charging time and can bring the economic operation of BEBs without affecting their schedules. The swapping affinity of the battery—the requirement for recharging, increases from zero at the time of its use in a bus. At the maximum affinity, continued use will reduce battery life and cause range anxiety. The headway is the time gap between two consecutive operations. The headway-based operation of BEBs will generate different swapping affinity patterns. Swapping operations, the schedules of recharging operations at the swapping station, and the battery requirements in a headway-based bus operation are presented in this work.

摘要
