Application of Spice Extract-Iron Bionanocomposites as a Medium for Hormonal Regulation in Females
摘要
In females the ovarian hormones play a key role in brain development from an early age throughout adolescence, but any irregulation in hormonal secretion may affect health. One such common condition occurring in females is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), having prevalence rate of 8–13% worldwide. It has been found that when treated with allopathic medicines, women have developed certain side-effects like weight gain and acne. Some studies have shown a positive effect of homeopathy and plant-based extracts on PCOS without any side-effects. The application of bionanoparticles as drug discovery in medical and paramedical sectors is an emerging field. There is not enough clinical data available on delivery of the plant extracts as bionanocomposites. In the present study, the spice extracts of allicin, cinnamaldehyde, and curcumin were (garlic, cinnamon, and turmeric) used to synthesize iron bionanoparticles. These were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The female mice were induced with PCOS through 1 ml/kg letrozole for 21 days. The characterized bionanocomposites were then mixed in feed (dry grass) and given to mice for 37 days to observe the effects of the synthesized iron-bionanocomposites. The microscopic examination of the mice reproductive stages was done using Giemsa staining and recorded. Through this study, the size of the spice extracted-iron bionanocomposites obtained was 10 nm. The feed mixed with spice extracted-iron bionanocomposites showed positive effects in increasing the levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), and estradiol (E2) in reproductive stages of mice. This led to the activation of the required hormonal level in female mice without any other side-effects.
