Design of Printing Tools for Food Packaging Made from Rice Husk Using the Quality Function Deployment Method

Plastic waste has become a serious global problem due to its non-degradability, which disrupts the environment. The large amount of plastic waste used can be replaced by Using environmentally friendly packaging. Rice husks contain lignocellulose, which can be a raw material for making environmentally friendly packaging, but there are problems in printing packaging made from rice husks. The objective of this study is to design sustainable packaging printing machinery utilizing rice husks through the application of the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) methodology. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) approach facilitates the conversion of consumer requirements into quantifiable technical specifications. The results of the research show that the printing equipment is designed with nine attributes of consumer needs, namely the pressure on the machine can be adjusted, the machine is easy to use, the machine can print more than 1 product at once, the machine does not get hot quickly, the machine is easy to clean, the machine uses solid and sturdy materials, the machine easy to repair, the machine does not take up space, and the machine is easy to make. The priority order of consumer needs is based on technical attributes that the company must meet, such as the type of machine material, shape and dimensions of the machine, printing machine tools, and the pressure strength of the machine during production. Developing environmentally friendly packaging printing equipment from rice husks can reduce the negative impact of plastic waste and provide a more sustainable packaging alternative.
