This chapter shares a framework for designing inclusive Zoom sessions with diverse learners in online courses. We call this learning activity the “care-full” Zoom because we recognise and integrate students’ lived experiences and through this stimulate engagement by helping students feel more confident to join in class discussions on their own terms. Crucially, we offer different ways to join the conversation to suit individual circumstances, and evaluation data show significantly increased participation in class activities as a result. This activity can be readily adapted to suit a variety of topics and delivery modes and is particularly useful for engaging non-confident and/or diverse learners.

摘要

This chapter shares a framework for designing inclusive Zoom sessions with diverse learners in online courses. We call this learning activity the “care-full” Zoom because we recognise and integrate students’ lived experiences and through this stimulate engagement by helping students feel more confident to join in class discussions on their own terms. Crucially, we offer different ways to join the conversation to suit individual circumstances, and evaluation data show significantly increased participation in class activities as a result. This activity can be readily adapted to suit a variety of topics and delivery modes and is particularly useful for engaging non-confident and/or diverse learners.
