This study investigates how older people construct a healthy identity of functional and self-regulated ability to achieve a healthier lifestyle by engaging in community-based exercises and activities through social media uses and creative communications. Social media and smartphone technologies facilitate older people to engage in both physical and online activities to enhance their physical, social and mental well-being. They form senior social networks through social media and mobile instant messaging apps of age-friendly interface design to co-create life experiences, health information resources, and joyful exercises and entertainment activities. They also acquire emotional comfort and social support through the community-based enriched media from both the hedonic and eudaimonic perspectives. Thick descriptions of their creative communications and activities online and offline generated from life history, ethnography and netnography highlight different aspects of healthy and active ageing through social media uses and community-based interventions.

摘要
