Individuals with BRCA1/2 pathogenic germline variants are at increased risk of developing prostate and pancreatic cancer as well as breast and ovarian cancer, although the names of disease “hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC)” might not suggest. Diagnosis of pancreatic cancer at early stage is extremely difficult, but recommended surveillance for those with BRCA1/2 variants has been suggested for both prostate and pancreatic cancer. Overwhelmingly, HBOC is found to be first diagnosed in patients with breast or ovarian cancer within their families. When we find a HBOC patient, we must remember that prostate and pancreatic cancer are also HBOC-related cancers, and it is necessary to help share this information among their family members, including “men.”
