Digital Ecosystem of Teaching-Learning in Persian as a Second Language
摘要
To fully leverage the unique opportunities offered by emerging technologies for language learning, it is necessary to consider their alignment with relevant theories and teaching methods. The ecological perspective is one of the viewpoints that can benefit from the features of contemporary knowledge and the language acquisition process. By adopting this perspective, educators can better understand how emerging technologies can be successfully incorporated into language learning. It, in turn, can lead to more effective teaching practices and better outcomes for language learners. This chapter takes an ecological perspective on teaching and learning Persian as a second language. The ecological perspective involves developing language skills within a context that considers learners’ age, learning preferences, and environmental characteristics. This approach aims to promote effective learning and foster meaningful connections with the language and culture. Similar to organisms living in an environment and interacting with their surroundings, language learners must engage with one another and immerse themselves in context. Teaching and learning Persian does not merely satiate the learners’ word deficiency and syntactic structures. The involved process must also consider the learning ecology and afford growth and development. From an ecological point of view, the learners engage in an active learning process that helps them become more engaged to increase their cognitive engagement and learn through affordances, resources, and relationships. The authors’ previous findings, which presented a conceptual model of the digital learning and teaching ecosystem (DTLE), were used to investigate the ecological perspective of Persian as a second language. The model includes eight components: Relationships, Context, Affordances, Resources, Process, Space, Self-Regulated Learner, and Time. This chapter delves into the DTLE of teaching and learning Persian as a second language, which is divided into three sections: the learning ecosystem, the ecological perspective on second language acquisition, and the digital teaching and learning ecosystem for Persian as a second language.
