This study evaluates the feasibility of implementing microgrids in Puerto Rico in accordance with the regulatory requirements stipulated in the Public Renewable Energy Policy (PREB). Two different case studies were conducted to assess the feasibility of meeting the necessary conditions imposed to renewable microgrids of produce at least 75% of their energy annually. In addition, the study focuses on a specific photovoltaic case, which demonstrates the availability of enough rooftop space on residential houses for the deployment of the proposed Photovoltaic system. While transient voltage fluctuations were observed during simulations, the study indicates that these variations remain within the prescribed 5% boundary, conforming to standard regulations. These findings emphasize the potential for microgrids to meet PREB regulations and highlight the importance of region-specific considerations for broader applicability.
