Fairness Index Analysis in Local Energy Communities Considering Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage

This paper is centered on community-based energy sharing with a fairness analysis, focusing on integrating electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage systems. This work utilizes mixed integer linear programming optimization methods to decrease the overall energy expenses of the entire community by optimizing the energy distribution among its members. Multiple benefit distribution strategies were compared and analyzed in terms of fairness using the Jain index, F, and participation index to determine the best-performing strategies. This research enhances comprehension of the potential variations in community-based energy sharing based on the distribution method and fairness score. Three cases are proposed: PV without storage and EV forecasted demand, PV with storage still with no EV control, and PV, storage, and EV control. The influence of transactions in the energy community allows for a cost-benefit of around 7–14%. The benefit distribution approaches are also analyzed, and the fairness of each case is examined.
