Small millets productivity in India is much lesser than potential yield for the reason of inadequate crop management. Frontline demonstrations (FLDs) program is one of the approaches and an effective tool for disseminating farm technologies generated by research system to bridge the yield gap. The “Cluster Frontline Demonstration on Small Millets” was conducted mostly during kharif season of 2010–11 to 2022–23 in different states, namely Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Uttarakhand under ICAR-AICRP on Small Millets, India, stated a wide yield gap between yields of potential and demonstration owing to extension and technology yield gaps. Over the base of 13 years data, demonstrations gave a mean of 41.16% (barnyard millet), 43.22% (finger millet), 43.74% (foxtail millet), 62.16% (little millet), 62.47% (kodo millet), and 68.42% (proso millet) higher yield than farmers practices. Extension yield gaps varied among different small millets (463, 475, 566, 569, 607, 632, and kg/ha in barnyard millet, little millet, foxtail millet, kodo millet, proso millet, and finger millet, respectively) during the study period. Further, technology index in finger millet (5.68–35.40%) and other small millets (11.99% in foxtail millet; 39.83% in kodo millet; 16.89% in barnyard millet; 12.72% in proso millet; 14.29% in little millet) has denoted that demonstrated technology in small millets is rather viable under prevailing agriculture situations in different states, however, requires to be disseminated in concentrated means to communicate farmers to enhance small millets productivity and farm profitability. Upgraded technology package resulted in enhanced profitability in small millets in respect of gross and net returns besides enhancing benefit–cost ratio. In general, it is implied that adoption of improved production technology has an exceptional potential in enhancing the small millets productivity via frontline demonstration strategy.
