A teacher occupies a very important place in the educational process. Research in recent times in the Indian context has shown that teachers, young and old, are increasingly reporting feelings of fatigue, restlessness, cynicism, monotony, and even apathy in their jobs. A stressed teacher is likely to have poor health, reduced self-confidence and damaged personal relationships. The need of the hour, therefore, is to shift focus from stress and burnout to resilience and evolving techniques of building and promoting teacher resilience. It is time that the focus shifts to a preventive approach embedded in the realm of positive psychology, with resilience being the main thrust of enquiry, wherein the issue can be looked at from both organizational and personal perspectives. The present paper attempts to raise an edifice on this foundation, and addresses the issue of effective coping and building resilience as the main thrust areas.
