Indian Professionals in the Information Technology Enabled Services and Companies in the Philippines
摘要
The Philippine economy has progressed quickly from a predominantly agricultural-based economy to an industrial one. However, COVID-19 has badly impacted the economy, generated large-scale unemployment, and exacerbated inequalities. As a result of the pandemic, the Philippines slipped from being the fourth largest economy in the ASEAN region to the sixth. Despite this, the Information Technology (IT) sector in the Philippines helped the national economy to bounce back. Today, the IT sector and services are essential drivers of the national development in the Philippines. It is critical to note that the Indian IT professionals are playing a critical role in the economic development of the Philippines. India and the Philippines have a long history of healthy relations and the parallel growth of the IT sector in India and the Philippines has triggered the migration of Indian IT professionals to the Philippines, including the diasporic and the transnational communities. Indian IT professionals are not only boosting the Philippine economy but also assisting the country to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by spreading of information and communications technology and global interconnectedness.
