A Problem-Based Learning Framework for an Undergraduate Ergonomics Course: Lighting and Illumination
摘要
The environmental factors, such as noise, illumination, vibration, and climatic conditions, may influence the productivity and health of workers, not only in certain manufacturing industries but also in offices. The importance of these factors, current legislations, and actions that needs to be taken is usually covered in an ergonomics course of an Industrial Engineering major. This study aims to introduce a framework for a problem-based learning (PBL) approach when teaching the “lighting and illumination” concepts. The driving question is determined as “How to assess the effect of illumination to the performance of workers?” The application steps of PBL for the ergonomics course are explained in detail. The assessment questions for the students who are enrolled to the course are also provided. The advantages of PBL application when teaching the environmental factors are discussed.
