Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) signs are highly misinterpreted by the employees of organizations, which compromises safety and health at the workplace. Less concentration is given to studying the comprehensibility of the designed signs from the perspective of novice users and target users. The study addresses the issue of one such incomprehensible sign—‘Cough or sneeze at the crease of the elbow or tissue’. A novel human-centered sign design/redesign life cycle has been proposed, an intervention in OSH and the design process where the sign undergoes various phases of the design/redesign life cycle. Finally, it undergoes an evaluation where it is tested for its comprehensibility by considering the target users and designers. The study assisted in redesigning variants, which are then evaluated to find variant(s) of better comprehensibility. The most comprehensible variant among them has been selected for reuse.

摘要
