Healthcare Assistance for Paralyzed Individuals Based on Hand Gestures

One of the most common disabilities after a stroke is paralysis, or the inability of a muscle to move. Regaining voluntary mobility can be facilitated for stroke survivors with ongoing therapy and rehabilitation. The purpose of this research is to develop a system that will enable a person who has had a stroke or is partially paralyzed to communicate with someone in an emergency and not rely on them for basic necessities. The basis for this research is hand gesture. By installing a device on the dorsal side of the hand, one can measure the tilt angle and use it to convey different kinds of messages. Additionally, it will be gathering real-time feedback on the patient’s health parameters and alerting the patient or his attendant anytime there are variations from the patient’s typical readings on any of his health parameters. Since the doctor can easily track the patient’s improvement in health over time, this data can be very helpful for the doctor in making any assumptions and providing the patient with the appropriate medical aid.
